THE HOLY QURAN RECITATION COMPETITION 2023
 Sunday, March 5th | 10 AM - 1 PM
 

The annual Quranic Recitation Competition is a way to encourage our students to not only recite verses from the Quran by memory but be able to understand what they are reciting or reading. This is why along with tajweed (pronunciation), students will be judged on ability to translate.

The competition will be held in two different sessions divided as follows:

Lower Level: Grades 1-6:

MEMORIZATION OF SELECTED SURAHS WITH MEANING


Students should use Juz Amma for Arabic and meanings

 

List of Surahs for the competition:

Grade 1 : Surah n-Nas (Surah#114), Surah Al-Fatiha (Surah#1), and Surah Al-Falaq (Surah#113)

Grade 2 : Surah Al-Ikhlas (Surah#112), Surah Al-Lahab (Surah#111), and Surah An-Nasr (Surah#110)

Grade 4 : Surah Al-Quraish (Surah#106), Surah Al-Fil (Surah#105), and Surah Al-Humazah (Surah#104)

Grade 5: Surah Al-Asr (Surah#103), Surah At-Takathur (Surah#102), and Surah Al-Qariah (Surah#101)

Grade 6: Surah Al-Qadr (Surah#97), Surah Al-Zalzalah (Surah#99), and Surah Al-Adiyat (Surah#100)

Rules for the competition for Grades 1-6:

Each student must ONLY recite the Surah that has been picked by the competition comittee for that grade on the day of the competition. Therefore, students should prepare all 3 Surahs with meaning.

The judges will use the following criteria:.

  • Recitation                                10 points

  • Tajweed/Rules of Tajweed     10 points

  • Fluency/Reciting clearly        10 points

  • Meaning                                   10 points


The results of the judges will be final and cannot be challenged.

Students will also be given participation points based on their competition scores (max 10) added to their academic results. 


Upper Level: Grades 7-12:

Grade 7 :
Surah Al-Balad (Surah#90), and 
Surah As-Shams (Surah#91)

Grade 9 :

Surah Al-Ghashiya (Surah#88) Ayah 17-26 and 
Surah Al-Fajr (Surah#89Ayah 21-30

Grade 10:
Surah An-Naba (Surah#78): Ayah 17-40, and 
Surah Al-Kahaf (Surah#18): Ayah 1-10

 

Grade 11:
Surah Ar-Rahman (Surah#55): Ayah 1-20, and 
Surah Al-Baqarah (Surah#2): Ayah 1-10

 

Grade 12:
Surah Al-Baqarah (Surah#2): Ayah 152-156, and 

Surah Al- Baqarah (Surah#2): Ayah 285-286

The judges will use the following criteria:
